Our 14 Month Sleep Routine

Our 14 Month Sleep Routine

If you have more than one kiddo, maybe you feel like me.  Emily did everything by the book and now is excelling in everything she does.  Brody on the other hand was colicky which I feel like set MY mind back 3 months.  I couldn't focus on anything other than him for 3 whole months and I was going crazy.  He doesn't say words yet at 14 months (which I'm totally ok with) even though Emily was saying several words by the time she was one.  I know that a lot of second kiddos hold off on talking because their older sibling will do that for them and that's true for Brody too.

The one thing that Brody DOES seem to be following is the recommended sleep schedule for kiddos his age.  I read that it's recommended for 14 month olds to get 14 hours of sleep a day!  That's crazy!  Brody has been amazing and generally goes down for the night between 7:00-7:30 pm and wakes up around 7:00.  Once he's up and after Emily is dropped off at school around 7:30-8:00 am we start our day.  For me that usually means hitting up Target.  I know it sounds silly to go to Target that much,l but it's not always to shop.  A lot of times we just walk around for a bit.  It helps Brody get excersise, explore new things, and gets us out of the house.  He's still too little for me to let him just run around at a park and sometimes I'm lazy and don't feel like being his crazy shadow, so Target it is!  I need to start going to our huge mall and letting him toddle around there!

Sometimes we'll go home and play or he'll help me clean up for a couple hours.  We have dance parties which he loves more than anything.  Other times after Target its lunch time and we'll go to Chick Fil A, my favorite.  By the time 10:30-11:00 am rolls around it's definitely nap time for the boy.  Brody has been sleeping for two-three hours during his nap.  That just boggles my mind!  I know I should be being productive but most of the time I take a nap too!  With working midnight shift we all know I need it!

What's my biggest sleep trick?  It's not even a trick, I literally just let him go until I know he's tired.  If I try to push him to sleep he'll cry and scream forever and eventually fall asleep but that's so hard to handle!  We've also stopped giving Brody a bottle to go to bed with. He gets his bottle right beforehand but downstairs.  I think that's helped a ton because he doesn't associate the bottle with sleep anymore OR with comfort.  When Brody would wake up in the middle of the night we would always give him a bottle which resulted in him not able to go back to sleep ever without one.  That sucked!  We also use a DockATot non-stop which helps Brody feel protected and comfortable.  He's been sleeping in a DockATot since birth and it's nothing short of amazing!  Now he's sleeping through the night, just like Emily, and life is getting back to normal.

What are some of your sleep tricks?!
